German measles is an acute viral infection caused by a virus transmitted by the secretions resulting from coughing or sneezing, leading to an average rise in temperature with a rash, swelling of the lymph nodes and arthritis. The most serious injury occurs during the first months of pregnancy where it can lead to fetal death or serious fetal deformities.
