The microbiota, microorganisms that live in different places of the human body, is essential to prevent infections of potentially pathogenic bacteria, says the academic of the Faculty of Medicine of the UNAM, Rafael GarcĂa Gonzalez
Its presence is important for the survival of the host (the human being), since it participates in physiological functions such as food digestion and prevents other potentially pathogenic bacteria from colonizing the organism, in addition to producing vitamins.
The expert of this faculty of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), says that the microbiota is obtained from birth, at the time the baby passes through the birth canal and acquires bacteria from the vagina and the perianal region of Mother. In case of caesarean section, contact occurs with the environment or when eating food.
These microorganisms, "generally, perform a series of activities that benefit the individual, and vice versa, that is, there is a symbiotic relationship" and both parties receive benefits.
It is called normal microbiota, normal flora or native flora, the set of microorganisms that are routinely located in different sites of the human body, and that coexist with the host without causing disease.
